Here is a list of best cheap VPS providers for n8n and AI agents. Self-hosting n8n gives you unlimited workflows and executions for the price of a small server, and the same server can run AI agent tools, a database or a small model with Ollama.
What matters for these workloads is different from website hosting. You need enough RAM (n8n and agents are memory-hungry, CPU usage is usually low), a server that’s always on, and ideally a one-click template so you don’t have to install Docker and n8n by hand. I compared five providers on exactly those points.

How Much Server Do You Need?
- 2GB RAM: n8n alone with a few light workflows. Tight, but it works.
- 4GB RAM: the comfortable minimum for n8n with regular use, including workflows that call AI APIs.
- 8GB RAM or more: n8n plus a database, several agent tools, or small local AI models.
CPU matters less: automations spend most of their time waiting for APIs. One or two vCPUs are enough unless you run local models.

Hostinger is the most beginner-friendly option here, because n8n comes pre-installed. When you create the server, you choose the Ubuntu 24.04 with n8n template, and a few minutes later you open n8n from the hPanel dashboard and create your owner account. There are also templates for n8n in queue mode (for heavy workloads) and n8n with 100+ pre-made workflows, as well as templates for Ollama, Docker and popular AI agent tools. Hetzner is a German hosting company popular with developers for its low prices and reliable network. Its cloud servers are billed by the hour with a monthly cap, so you can create a server to try something and delete it an hour later for a few cents. The CX23 plan has 2 vCPUs, 4GB of RAM, 40GB of NVMe storage and 20TB of traffic. There are also Arm-based CAX plans with the same resources.
Hetzner’s data centers are in Germany, Finland, the USA and Singapore. You set up n8n yourself with Docker Compose, following n8n’s documentation, which takes some command-line comfort.

Contabo gives the most resources for the money: the Cloud VPS 4 plan has 4 vCPUs, 8GB of RAM and 100GB of SSD storage for €5.50/month (including VAT), with unlimited traffic under a fair-use policy. That much RAM leaves room for n8n, a database and small local AI models on one server.
The trade-off is performance consistency and support. Independent benchmarks and user reviews commonly report slower disks and CPUs than the specs suggest, and slower support than the other providers here. For automations that mostly wait on APIs, that matters less than it does for websites.

DigitalOcean
DigitalOcean is the most polished developer platform on this list, with excellent documentation, a clean dashboard, managed databases and per-second billing. It is also the most expensive: a Basic Droplet with 2 vCPUs and 4GB of RAM costs $24/month, and the 2GB plan is $12/month.
Choose DigitalOcean if you value its ecosystem and reliability over price, or if you already use it for other projects. New accounts often get free trial credit, which is enough to test n8n for a while.

Oracle Cloud Always Free
Oracle Cloud’s Always Free tier includes Arm-based Ampere A1 compute equal to 2 OCPUs and 12GB of RAM, which you can use as one server or split into two, plus 200GB of block storage and 10TB of outbound traffic per month, all at no cost. On paper it beats every paid plan here.
In practice there are real catches. Free A1 capacity is often unavailable in popular regions, so creating the server can take many attempts. And Oracle may reclaim idle Always Free instances: if, over 7 days, CPU, network and memory use all stay under 20%, the server can be stopped. A lightly used n8n server can easily look idle by that definition. Upgrading the account to pay-as-you-go (while staying within the free limits) is commonly reported to avoid reclamation.
